CHARLOTTE - The Panthers continue to remake their wide receiving corps, adding another veteran to the mix by signing
Avant became a free agent when the Philadelphia Eagles released him March 4 after eight seasons with the team. Drafted by the Eagles in the fourth round of the 2006 draft out of Michigan, the 6-2, 210-pound Avant ranks 11th in Eagles history with 297 receptions and 13th with 3,646 yards.
"We are happy to have Jason with the Panthers," head coach Ron Rivera said. "He provides a versatile player at receiver and brings good size as well as experience to the position."
After playing in half of Philadelphia’s games as a rookie, Avant played in all but four games over the past seven seasons. He caught 50-plus passes for three consecutive seasons before catching 38 last season while starting a career-high 13 games for a team that relied heavily on running back LeSean McCoy and wide receiver DeSean Jackson.
